We moved to Nairn from Inverness in 2006, buying Napier from Hamish and Hilary MacLeod. Hamish lived in Napier from very early childhood, and the house was home to not only his parents but also to many aunts and uncles. Much of the furniture has remained with the house, meaning that we are privilieged to have not just inherited tables and chairs, but also a family history.
We have been lucky enough to become friends with Hamish and Hilary, finding that in addition to a mutual love of the house we also share many other interests. We have kept on their beehives, their chickens, and their vegetable gardens, and see that as being part of our shared ambitions to manage our lifestyles in an environmentally responsible manner.
Ian was born in Inverness, and after a number of years working in UK and overseas he settled back in the Highlands in 1991 where he established Main McCook Architects. Sophie was born in Elgin, and after training as a nurse and becoming a full-time mother, she is now a successful writer. We have 3 children, Gabriel, Alice, and Cosmo, who all attend the nearby Steiner School.
